Tuesday, November 27, 2012
Anyone
working in the legal field can be called a legal executive. However, they need
to pass an examination set by the Institute of Legal Executives. Otherwise they
cannot call themselves legal executive. One can start his or her career by
joining a law firm. Once he or she gains some experience, he or she can start
practicing individually. Some also prefer government jobs while others like to
work for private companies. Legal professionals initially need to work for five
years under the supervision of a senior.
Let’s
have a look at the training one needs in order to become a legal executive.
College and Law School
If
you wish to become a legal executive you will have to complete a four-year
college degree, typically a law degree. If you have a plan to concentrate on a
special area, you can focus on that while pursuing law degree. For example, if
you wish to become a personal injury lawyer, you can focus on personal injury
law while attending law college.
Internship
While
you study in a law college, try to go for internship. Interns can expect good
pay scale. However, the work experience they gain is invaluable. When you work
as an intern, you will also get the opportunity to build networks that will be
helpful in future.
Institute of Legal Executives Examination
Obtaining
a law degree is not enough until and unless you pass the examination set by the
Institute of Legal Executives. This is essential in order to become a legal
executive in the UK.
License
The
next important step is to obtain a license. Whether you wish to practice
individually or join a law firm, obtaining a license is important.
Practice
When
you start your career it is better to join a law firm than to start as an
individual practitioner. Joining a law firm will help you to gain experience.
You will learn how to deal with clients, how to represent them in court, how to
manage the paper works and so on.
Getting a Job
If
you have qualification and skills, getting a job should not be difficult for
you. You can search for legal
executive jobs on the online job portals or check
with recruitment agencies. Registering your resume with a legal recruitment
agency will maximise your chance of getting a job. You will get job alerts
whenever a vacancy meets your qualification, skills and experience. You can
then visit their website and apply for the job.
